Antique Paving Brick vs Reclaimed Face Brick

ANtique Boston Paving Brick

Not all antique brick is alike and can be used for paving applications. Face brick that was manufactured and used for building walls and chimneys is not fired properly to be used face down as paving brick. Paving brick is harder and does not absorb water and hence does not spall. Reclaimed face brick is much more plentiful than paving brick, especially in New England, and hence is much cheaper, but it really is not suited for paving applications where there is a robust freeze thaw cycle.
